Living Legends

Well, who would have thought it? Certainly not us. When we left our day jobs back in March 1980 – which admittedly seems a lifetime ago from where we now sit – our ambition was to write one hit television sit-com and switch on our tellies at home and see our names roll in the credits. And now here we are being awarded by the British Comedy Society the award of “Living Legends of Comedy”.

It is a public event and all the information you could want can be found at this link below:

Living Legends of Comedy

It is more than we dared dream and we shall place whatever giant award we are given alongside our Baftas, which have for years served as bookends for Laurence’s voluminous diaries. So many of you who read our website write to us, from all corners of the world, be it to suggest possible future episodes for Goodnight Sweetheart, or to ask whether there will ever be any more episodes of The New Statesman, but this Living Legends event will afford us the opportunity to meet you, discuss with you your dreams and ambitions, or answer in person the many questions you put to us through your blogs.

We now wonder that once being handed the sobriquet “Living Legends” what could possibly follow? A knighthood? A seat in the House of Lords? Perhaps even being castaway on a desert island somewhere, with just eight records between us? Meanwhile, we have work to attend to and a new series of Birds of a Feather to write. There are some new television projects we have to address too and we shall keep you right up-to-date with these through this blog in the weeks ahead. Or perhaps we can take the opportunity to discuss them with you when or if we meet on Sunday, September 13.
